Singer Gregory Bortey Newman, widely known by his stage name King Promise, says Ghanaian artistes not receiving any nomination at this year’s BET Awards was unexpected.
Speaking in an interview with Ohemaa Woyeje on Adom FM’s “Work and Happiness” on Tuesday, the “Selfish” hitmaker said he was surprised Ghana was left out.
“It’s disappointing. We want people to represent us on the international scene and it’s sad we had no nomination,” he told Ohemaa.
He noted that in 2017, many Ghanaian songs crossed the borders. He found difficult to understand the algorithm used for artistes nominated for the Best International Act category of the BET.
“We had lots of hits and it was a very good year so I don’t know why that happened but we just have to work harder”, he said.
