During a press briefing on Wednesday, 17th March, by the Information Ministry on the update on the Covid-19 cases reported in Ghana, the Minister of Information was asked if the government has truly planned to hire celebrities as ambassadors to educate the public on the pandemic and said that will not happen.
Detailing what sparked the rumour, pulse.com.gh heard Kojo Oppong Nkrumah say that “we were thinking of having them as public education ambassadors or public education champions. I later saw online stories that we have said we are going to use celebrity ambassadors and suggestion that we are going to pay some money, no that is not happening”
He concluded that “so thanks for the opportunity to even clarify that”. Ghana has recorded seven cases so far and that has heightened tensions in the country, which has attracted Ghanaian celebrities such as Yvonne Nelson, Lydia Forson, Edem, Efia Odo, Nana Aba Anamoah among others commenting on the pandemic.
